Senior's Farewell

Sorry for spammng the blog thrice in a day, but this is an important announcement.

Please be reminded that senior's farewell is on:
1 September 2011, Thursday
11.00am to 1.30pm
at the ISH.

Please come early to prepare for the farewell.

It is compulsary to attend senior's farewell. If you are unable to attend, please inform Helena and myself.

The reason for absence must be valid. "I don't like parties." is not a valid reason.

Remember to bring the food and cutlery :D

Hey choir :D

Here is the schedule for holiday practices in the september holidays.

Wednesday, 7 September 2011(sec 1s and 2s)----1.00pm to 4.30pm
Thursday, 8 September 2011(full choir)----1.30pm to 5.30pm

Please remember that all school rules still apply during the holidays, so come in your proper school attire or a school approved t-shirt with your cca skirt. Ensure that you off your phone, remove all nail polishes, have nails of appropriate length, have your hair neatly pinned up and have your name tag and school badge on.

Remember to bring your scores and a water bottle!

If you are unable to attend choir practice, which shouldn't be the case since all of you are free, contact Ms Chan, Helena, your level rep and myself.

You must have a valid reason for missing choir. Going on a spontaneous one day trip to Malaysia is not a valid excuse.

This is not an either or. You must inform the four of us and give us details of your absence.

Also, remember to produce a medical certificate or parent's letter for your absence.

Please practice and revise your scores!

From this year onwards, all of you are required to attend at least 3 choir concerts in order to gain some exposure, and for now, there will be a choir concert that all of you are required to attend.

June Holiday Practices

Hey Choir!

Here are the dates for choir practices in the June Holidays:

Thursday, 2 June 2011- 1:00pm to 6:00pm
Wednesday, 22 June 2011- 8:00am to 12:00pm
Thursday, 23 June 2011- 8:00am to 12:00pm

Please come 15 minutes early for practices and remember to bring your scores. Also remember to come in full school uniform or any school based shirt with CCA skirt, and remove any nail polish from your finger nails (that is if you do paint your nails) and ensure that they are of acceptable length.

Speech day is on 22 July 2011, so please put in your 150% into all choir practices :DDD

Also be reminded that if you cannot make it for any of the choir practices, you have to inform your level reps, Ms Chan, Helena and I or we will chase after you ^^

On another note, please remember to bring $2 for the choir fund, and pass it to Kimberley Vun after choir on thursday.

Lastly, if you have any ideas for the new choir shirt, please give the designs to Helena or myself by 11 August 2011, Thursday.

GREAT JOB FOR SPEECH DAY PERFORMANCE! see, it was a happy day after all! thank you all for putting in your 150% and pushing through all the tirng rehearsals. thank you from the bottom of our hearts :)
Remember, this is just the beginning, and we are looking forward to seeing even more improvement in the practices and performances to come. hope that this would be a motivation to be consistent and always give your best every single practice. keep this up and SMSS choir will go far! continue to share the joy of singing from the bottom of your hearts :D

Hey choir, Just a few updates on the upcoming speech day performance, if you did not take note/have forgotten :)

Speech day is on 23rd of july, and we will be singing amazing grace/we rise again and the benediction. Please make sure all of you memorise the notes, words and actions by this coming wednesday, and if any of you needs help please clarify your doubts with your friends.

Attire: plain black top (round neck, any length sleeves), black tailored pants and 2cm black pumps/ court shoes. sec 2s-3s please remember your scarfs (sec 1s you will receive yours later. if you have any doubts abt your attire pls ask any of the comm members)

Good job so far choir, continue to practice hard and give your best! We can do it!

Hi Choir! For those who need guidelines on the packing list for choir camp, here it is:

- sufficient SCHOOL t shirts and shorts for 2 days and one night. Remember to include your CHOIR SHIRT and a DARK SHIRT. come to school in UNIFORM pls!
- toiletries ( eg. toothbrush/soap etc)
- towel
- sufficient undergarments
- $6
- slippers
- water bottle
- comb
- writing materials
- Sleeping bag!

if you want to contact your parents at night, you can bring your handphone. but it will be kept with the teachers during the day. do not bring excessive money either.

PLEASE BE REMINDED THAT:

1. Only School approved t-shirts are allowed to be worn during the camp
2. Home shirts can only be worn to sleep
3. No FBTs allowed

we have to keep that motivation up for the rest of our rehearsals! it can't last for a day and die down the next. yesterday was good and it only proved that we had the ability to achieve such fruitful rehearsals. so would you all please try to motivate yourselves too?

Heyyy choristers! :D

Well I just wanted to say a few things as we get into the intensive period of choir.
Remember that you cannot miss any rehearsals during the March holidays as it'd mean that you wouldn't be able to participate in SYF!

In anycase, yes, we'll be going for a competition really soon now.
&Time has set a limit for all of us.
But no matter how tough training will become, I'd really hope to see every chorister try their best in getting into the standard that we are capable of.
We can do it, we can definitely do it.
Don't lose hope even if you get really stressed due to choir. Look for peers to help you.
Do take care of your voices and yourself as a whole tooo.
Restrict yourself from too much of Chilli, Chocolate and Oily fooood.

I feel really excited for SYF.
We'll all go as a team and have a blast.

Remember this,
Knowing is not enough; we must apply.
Willing is not enough; we must do.

Despite the fact that it WILL get hard, my hope for all of us is that we come out a stronger person and no matter what the results would be at the end of APRIL 2oth, i hope that all of you would be able to say
WITH CONVICTION,
" we have fought the battle, ran it well and have done our best."

And you all NEED to know that in a choir, everyone must be on the same page before the page can be flipped so yes, really, its all about teamwork.
There really isn't any point if only a small group of members kept trying to flip those pages but while the others are still finding their way.
So thats the duty of every choir member, to help your friends out and to show them the light at the end of the tunnel when things really don't seem bright enough.
I hope that we all can put in our utmost effort in the last coming month and make it THE BEST SYF in the history of smss Choir yea? we must be that history makers :D

so eat your choir scores, drink it, smell it, feel it, dream of it. everything. make photocopies of it and make them your room wallpaper, scan it and leave it on your computer's desktop background, paste them in the toilet so u can run through them even while bathing.
Really, do everything you can in this final lap of the race alright?

I believe that we ALL can do it TOGETHER and WILL do it.

And yes, to answer to Acl's question, haha,

♥ Camp camp camp

Hey there, we'll be having our choir camp soon &I thought it'll be good if the details of the camp are laid out again on a single post and address certain issues.

The main objective of this camp is to create even more Bonds within the choir, and to wish farewell to both Priscilla and Rachelle.

To start with, choir camps ARE compulsory. and MCs are to be submitted to cover absence. But, when the announcement was made the other time, i said "i'm not going to force anyone into attending this camp", meaning to say, FOR THIS CAMP ONLY, i would allow people not to attend the camp if you have a legitimate reason and by giving you the benefit of doubt that is. But i don't thing excuses like "i'm not a fan of camps" or "i'm not close to the people we are bidding farewell to" is a very good reason.

Firstly, i can boldly say that at least half the people in choir aren't fans of camps. but its really up to you on how you look at it, its mind over body.
Secondly, the fact that some arent' close to the people we are bidding farewell to, means to say that we aren't close to alot of people. Thinking about it, for a cca, it is very hard to be close to everyone, since we are "working" during cca and not chilling out and having parties. Thats why, there is a need for camps and such to knit a closer bond between all of you. its also a chance for you to get to know more of the people you would be mixing with for at least the following year. With a bond between everybody, it would be easier to work and you'll see that everything, rehearsals and such can be taken at a quicker pace since we would understand everyone better.

At the same time, i don't wish to "point a gun" at your head demanding that you turn up for this camp. But i really hope that everyone would turn up with the conviction that as a choir family, we do things together, not leaving anyone out. its just like a family portrait taken without one of the family members. weird isn't it? So whats within our ability is to encourage you all to just attend this camp but if u find that by coming to this camp, you can just faint and become eccentric, then i rather you not come for this camp. psyche yourself into coming for the future compulsory camps. basically, we hope to see everyone there. Please do inform me if you really can't come for the camp, if not i take that everyone would be present.

If any of you really don't know what to pack, you can follow the list below which should be reasonable enough for a day camp.

1 set of pajamas, can be a set consisting any shirt and pants. [Does not have to be school-based.]

Sanitary Pads. [For emergency uses.]

Others
Slippers.
Sleeping Bag.
Plastic bags. [Storage of dirty clothes.]

Certain camp rules.
Please be reminded that NO spagetti tops, tanktops, singlets, halter top, FBTs or any other of such clothes are allowed to be worn even for sleeping during camp.
If you are not certain if what you intend to bring is allowed, ask.
Or to stay out of trouble, just bring a normal T-shirt and PE pants for sleep. :D
Electronic gadgets should only be brought at your own risks and please be reminded that we would be collecting ur phones upon meeting time and will be given back to you at night. this is solely for safekeeping and not for kill-joy purposes.

Thanks to E Wen again for opening up her house to us again in such short notice. The comm did try to find a proper function room to hold our gathering or at least a BBQ pit but i'm sorry we couldn't book one in time, i hope you guys don't mind the last minute arrangement and previously, if u haven't indicated your interest in this party, i hope you would do so as soon as possible so we can make necessary arrangements. i hope that you all can make it for this inofficial gathering and don't mind all these last min arrangements. christmas party: 3rd week of Dec (week b4 christmas)

UPCOMING CAMP+REHEARSALS
in case you all forgot what i said previously, or in any case din hear it, please note that this camp would NOT be a rigorous camp of any sort. its really more of a "get together". this camp would also include a farewell for Priscilla and Rachelle. so please try to make it alright? i strongly encourage every one of you to attend it if you don't have anything on yea? Any of our GRAND seniors who happen to see this post, i hope you all would be able to come back to join us at anytime yea? hope to see you all! :D

CAMP Details: 29th Dec (12 noon)-30th Dec(12noon)
Rehearsals: 30 Dec (1-6pm)
31st Dec (8am-4pm)

rehearsals at the end of the year is EXTREMELY CRUCIAL and we don't expect anyone to be absent from these practices..

anyway, through this holiday, remember to set aside time to learn the SYF songs to make more fruitful rehearsals when we come back yea? take care!

Carolling Practice Dates
3rd Dec and 5th dec: 9.30-12 in the morning

RECENT EVENTS (thanksgiving)
I think we all did really well on thanksgiving day and i'm really proud to have a choir like you all. I gave my all, did you? it was good :D and for some who hasn't seen this video which i've uploaded of our practice, you can view it here. View at your own discretion :D and sorry it is a bit blur cause the video has been heavily shrunked.

The comm has also been thinking about having some outings together. as in no formal outing. like just maybe go watch a movie? hah. and burst their theatre with smss choir girls. for all you know we start singing to the songs there. haha.. kidding. so what do you all think? yes/no?
